All of us want to stay healthier and ‘younger’ for longer, and it seems that acupuncture may be able to help in some ways.

So what is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese holistic medicine that involved pricking the surface of the skin and tissues in particular areas of the body.
Its basis is the belief that energy moves in a balanced way through the human body and that this energy is made up of what is known as Yin and Yang in China – equal opposites.
If these energies fall out of balance, it is believed that illness can occur and the balance can be restored to fix the problem through acupuncture.
Acupuncture has long been used to treat various illnesses, help with mental and emotional problems or conditions and to relieve pain.
It is well known for its benefits and it is now used by many people across the UK.
Acupuncture And Arthritis
It has long been suspected that acupuncture was a successful medicine for helping to relieve pain in arthritis.
In recent years studies have proven its effectiveness in the relief of both pain and stiff joints in arthritis sufferers.
In 2006, a study was conducted in Germany involving 3,553 patients with arthritis.
Each of the patients were pre-checked for pain and stiff joint severity, as well as their quality of life.
Two-thirds of these patients were then given acupuncture treatment over a three month period, while the remaining third were not given any treatment at all.
After the three month period, all patients were reassessed and those who had been receiving acupuncture treatments were found to be experiencing a better quality of life with less pain and a reduction in the stiffness of their joints.
The study showed that the regular drugs prescribed to reduce pain and inflammation in arthritis patients were not necessarily required and pushed the NHS to look at acupuncture as a treatment to relieve the symptoms associated with arthritis.
Since this study, many more studies have been conducted that show similar results and seem to confirm that acupuncture is a quality treatment to give patients with arthritis less pain and inflammation, more mobility and a better quality of life.
But acupuncture could also effective in helping patients with other diseases and illnesses, like Parkinson’s disease.
Acupuncture And Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson’s disease is one of the most common diseases that affect the central nervous system in the body.
Sufferer’s experience symptoms such as reduced movement, loss of ability to control movement, rigid muscles, tremors (shakes and twitches), posture problems and slurred speech due to loss of control of oral muscles.
It is a degenerative disease and patients suffering can only be certain that eventually they will lose complete control of their bodies, hence the reason that there is a constant search for a cure and effective treatment of the symptoms.
And it looks as though there could be hope for those having to live with the illness.
Various studies have been conducted in recent months to determine whether acupuncture could help to relieve the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.
The results of the studies have been astonishing, with some showing that acupuncture can help with fatigue in Parkinson’s sufferers and others showing that acupuncture treatments can help to reactivate parts of the brain that have been damaged and ‘deactivated’ as such by the disease.
Acupuncture as an alternative natural treatment
Today, our health seems to be regulated by modern medicine and the large companies that issue prescription drugs for just about every illness known.
But with the endless list of illnesses and diseases we currently experience, acupuncture is increasingly becoming another option for certain health issues.
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese therapy that has been around for thousands of years and is still being used effectively today, and is a more natural method of helping to treat some physical and psychological complaints.
It has been around for over 2000 years and continues to thrive in today’s world.
The use of needles, being inserted into the skin at various points of the body might make people think that this will be a painful process, but it is not.
The ancient Chinese believed that the body has the ability to heal itself from numerous injuries and illnesses as long as the “QI”, which is the term used for the body’s energy flow, continues to flow without interruption.
One major reason to consider the use of acupuncture is to eliminate the overuse of synthetic drugs for just about every type of problem.
It seems like every time someone visits the doctor, they walk out of the doctor’s office with a prescription for some sort of drug.
Some prescriptions are valid and needed and others probably are not.
Nausea, insomnia, migraine headaches, and chronic back pain are a few of the issues that plague many people.
A lot of these people turn to synthetic drugs to treat these issues but Acupuncture may be a good alternative to treat some of these problems as well.
Side effects from prescription drugs vary from patient to patient, but with acupuncture, there are no known adverse side effects.
That is another big reason to take into consideration when exploring this option.
So if you are having some sort of recurring illness and are looking for a healthier and more economical option to treat your problems, acupuncture may be something you want to consider.
