At the Amchara Retreat, there are three particular super supplements that we adore and that offer some fantastic benefits to your health, helping you to stay younger and healthier for longer.
These are wheatgrass, blue green algae and aloe ferox and in this article we will look at the properties of each and why they are so good for you.
Supplements are so important at this time of year when our immune systems are slightly down and under stress, as we’re more prone to colds, coughs and mild illness and these super supplements really can help.
Wheatgrass
Recently there has been a lot of interesting information that has come to light about wheatgrass and its health benefits. One of the most interesting is the fact that wheatgrass can increase longevity, meaning that by consuming it, you could live a longer and healthier life.
Wheatgrass is simply the baby wheat plant but although it is small, the tiny plant is jam-packed full of powerful nutrients.
The biggest recent discovery about wheatgrass is that it has anti-aging properties.
Wheatgrass is also good for digestions, can increase energy levels which is important in winter, and it’s great for fighting common Western illnesses such as cancer and diabetes.
So what is it that makes wheatgrass so good and what is in it that gives it these amazing properties?
Well, the question is, where do we start! Simply put, wheatgrass contains a whole host of essential vitamins and minerals, amino acids and most importantly, chlorophyll. The chlorophyll is what gives wheatgrass its anti-aging properties and many of its other health benefits.
It was way back in 1913 when German scientist Dr Richard Willstatter discovered that chlorophyll is essential in the diet as he discovered the molecular structure of chlorophyll was almost identical to haemoglobin, the red pigment in our blood cells. The only difference is that the central atom in haemoglobin is iron, but in chlorophyll it is magnesium.
Chlorophyll helps to oxygenate our blood which is important for healthy body cells. Healthy cells means living for longer and staying younger for longer too. Wheatgrass also detoxifies and works by neutralising toxins in the body. This helps to fight cancer and other common Western illnesses.
Blue Green Algae
Blue green algae is one of the most nutritional supplements available today. It is classed as a superfood due to its high concentration of vitamins, nutrients and proteins, all of which are essential for a healthier and longer life. Blue green algae also has antioxidant properties, making it a fantastic supplement for detoxification.
The blue green algae used at Amchara Retreat comes from the Klamath Lake in Oregan. The health benefits of this super supplement are vast. It helps to boost energy, has anti-aging properties, has positive effects on the look of your skin and hair, it detoxifies the body, strengthens the immune system and helps to regenerate body tissues due to its ability to stimulate stem cell movement.
Consumption of blue green algae helps to reduce depression, promotes weight loss, helps to overcome allergies and its detoxification properties mean that it helps in fighting cancer and other common Western illnesses and diseases. So how does it work?
Blue green algae contains more than 65 essential minerals, vitamins and enzymes that are essential to the body and it also contains all eight essential amino acids and ten other amino acids. It has high levels of beta-carotene.
The type of blue green algae used at Amchara also contains the most biologically active chlorophyll of any known food, giving the same benefits as those outlined in wheatgrass, meaning that this super supplement can also help you to live longer and stay healthy for longer.
The antioxidants contained in blue green algae mean that it also has strong anti-inflammatory properties.
Aloe Ferox
Aloe ferox is a supplement that grows in very dry conditions such as part of South Africa. It is sometimes referred to by other names such as bitter aloe, tap aloe and cape aloe.
It has many health benefits including the promotion of healthy skin, treatment of sexually transmitted infections, digestive benefits and bowel cleansing due to its laxative effect, IBS symptom reduction, liver and gallbladder health, wound healing and allergy treatment. So why is aloe ferox so good for your health and what does it contain?
Aloe ferox contains more than 130 biological active compounds and these include vitamins and minerals, amino acids, chlorophyll, polysaccharides, glycoproteins and many other nutrients that support and strengthen our bodies.
It also contains phytonutrients which are what gives it its amazing bowel cleansing properties. As with the blue green algae and wheatgrass, the chlorophyll gives aloe ferox anti-ageing properties, promoting longevity.
