Spirulina is an amazing form of blue-green algae. It has a shape of a spiral coil and is found in both the sea and also in fresh water.
My favourite thing about spirulina is that it’s a plant based complete protein. If you’re a vegetarian then taking it regularly is definitely a must. But even if you do enjoy eating meat, it has truly amazing health benefits that everyone should be more aware of.
Such benefits include:
High Protein – It’s rare to find a plant with such high amounts of protein. It contains all the essential amino acids that make up a complete protein. The plus side is that fats and proteins from animal products are difficult to digest. Proteins from plants are much easier on the body and your digestive system. And a healthier digestive system means a healthier body overall.
Essential Fatty Acids – Spirulina has high amounts of GLA, ALA, and DHA. All these fatty acids are a must for a healthy heart and brain function. Especially for young children who are still in the crucial development stages.
Vitamins – Spirulina has very high amounts of Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, and Iodine for healthy thyroid function.
Minerals – In addition to vitamins, spirulina is rich in essential minerals such as; calcium, iron, potassium, manganese and zinc.
Sustainable – Unlike a lot of animal foods. Spirulina is completely sustainable and easy to grow and harvest.
