Top 3 Cleansing Juices

Why are juices so cleansing?

Juices are created by forcing fresh vegetables and hard fruit through either a masticating or centrifugal juicer.

To masticate means to grind or chew a substance into a pulp which is exactly what this type of juicer does – at a very slow speed to extract the maximum juice from the produce. It is a very efficient method of extracting the juice.

The word centrifugal, on the other hand, means directing or moving away from the centre, or the axis of an object. With a centrifugal juicing machine there is a high-speed spinning action occurring that grinds the food into pulp and then the juice is separated.

Which juicer should I go for?

Centrifugal juicers are great for those who wish to integrate daily juicing habits into their daily lives quickly and efficiently. These machines juice fast and are easy to dismantle and clean.

Generally there is minimal or zero chopping of vegetables or fruits required and a pint of juice can literally be made fresh, with the juicer parts washed up in just a few minutes!

They are perfect for those busy lives rushing in the morning with little time to spare.

Centrifugals tend to be cheaper and start around  £60 compared to masticating juicers that start from over £100.

We recommend for those new to juicing to start with a centrifugal and enjoy the ease and speed of juicing with these machines.

It’s much easier to implement a healthy routine in our daily lives when it’s quick and easy.

We know clients who have bought expensive masticating juicers with good intentions to juice every day who have then stopped using them due to the amount of time it takes to make the juice and clean the juicer.

Start with a centrifugal and when you’ve evolved on your juicing journey and are willing to spend longer in the morning chopping veg and washing up, then invest and upgrade in a masticating juicer.

A masticating juicer will produce a juice that will last longer with less oxidation, so it’s suitable if you prefer to prepare juice in the morning and drink it several hours later. When using a centrifugal juicer the juice needs to be drunk within 30 minutes to maximise the nutrient content.

When should I include juices?

Juicing removes the fibre from the vegetables and fruit, this means when the juice is ingested the digestive system doesn’t have to work to break anything down, instead all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals begin to be absorbed into the bloodstream very quickly.

Giving your body a break from digesting food enables it to focus on other important areas of health including healing, strengthening immunity and mental clarity.

The key organ to support during a fast is the liver as this is where all the detoxification and metabolism of fats and other compounds takes place. Top foods that encourage the liver in these processes are fennel, beetroot, turmeric, ginger, celery, kale, lemon and pear.

Juices can be a wonderful addition to a healthy diet because they add an injection of easily absorbed plant nutrients, particularly if drunk first thing in the morning before any other food as they have a very cleansing effect on the body and are very hydrating.

detox time

Juice fasts can be of huge benefit if you are suffering from mild or chronic health complaints such as arthritis, eczema or fatigue.

Your body is able to self-heal during a fast, thus reducing the effects and symptoms of health conditions.

When you fast on on vegetable and fruit juices you:

  1. Allow your body to take a break from continually digesting food so it can concentrate on other bodily functions such as repair and building of muscles and immune cells.
  2. Facilitate your body’s natural ability to detoxify and metabolise by regenerating new healthy cells and supplying the body with nutrients that support the liver (the hub of detoxification)
  3. Offer your body an opportunity to rebalance your internal terrain and create a more alkaline, anti-inflammatory state, essential for good health.
