A digestive remedy you’ll use again and again

There’s very few of us that haven’t experienced digestive problems, so if you want to rid yourself of uncomfortable wind, get your bowels moving and wave goodbye to bloating this is the perfect juice for calming and soothing the digestive system.

INGREDIENTS


1 cucumber – Not just for puffy eyes, cucumber is an excellent source of silica, a trace mineral that plays an important role in the strength of your connective tissues the important stuff that holds together your organs, joints, bones, teeth and skin. Cucumbers also contain vitamin C, A and folic acid as well as caffeic acid which prevents water retention.
2 small fennel bulbs – Medicinally, amongst herbalists fennel is an old favourite and is used to relieve cramps, wind and soothe pain. As it contains phytoestrogens it is also a useful remedy for menopausal complaints. Nutritionally it is an excellent source of fibre, vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, iron calcium and molybdenum.
1 inch piece fresh ginger – Ginger has a long tradition of being very effective against nausea, wind and cramps. It is also a powerful anti-inflammatory so a daily dose of this could help relieve joint and back pain.  
1 handful of basil or mint – Basil and mint share the same beneficial health effects and are effective digestive aids. These herbs can also be used for the treatment of headaches and as a mild sedative. Upset tummies respond well to mint and basil as their volatile oils relax the smooth muscle of the intestines and dilate small blood vessels. They also possess anti-bacterial and anti-worm activities.

METHOD


  • Where possible use organic produce to avoid pesticides and increase the nutrient value.
  • Throw all the ingredients in a juicer, whizz up, drink immediately and enjoy!
